The National Junior Honor Society has begun a “Digital Citizenship Awareness” program at Westwood Jr/Sr High School. The 8th grade students discuss issues like online safety, internet ethics, privacy and safe sharing. Parents received a Digital Citizenship Contract during Back to School night and parents and child pledged to respect and follow safe online habits. In a weekly tip read over the school’s PA system, students bring Digital Citizenship tips to the broader school community. In addition, these tips are sent home to parents through the school email, bringing the message “home.”
Mr. Richter, the school media specialist and advisor to the Jr Honor Society, has been implementing the new Digital Citizenship curriculum in the media center to rotating classes on all grade levels. Shown here are the honor society students sharing and planning the Digital Citizenship program at one of their meetings. The goal is to make each and every student and parent more aware of their online digital footprint.
