At our second BELS Research Database Vendor Day, we were joined by representatives from Follett, our library catalog partner, and a wide variety of research database vendors including Infobase, FactCite, Gale, ProQuest, EBSCO, NBC Learn, JSTOR, PebbleGo, Scholastic, and Cavendish Square. Bergen Community College’s Sidney Silverman Library co-hosted the event and were absolutely terrific at making sure things were set up to ensure the event ran smoothly and that our guests had everything they needed. Each vendor was assigned a table where they set up their promotional materials and were then joined by our attendees for small group sessions where attendees learned all about new products, developments, and usage tips. Our terrific vendors NBC Learn, JSTOR, and ProQuest sponsored an unending flow of coffee, pastries, and fruit while Infobase and FactCite co-sponsored a wonderful buffet luncheon where librarians and vendors had time to chat and network. Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive- attendees couldn’t believe how much they were able to learn in such a short time and came out with many new ideas about how to use the products to which they already subscribe and were curious about new products that they had never seen and are now considering for purchase. As always, BELS members are entitled to special member discounts from our vendors which makes trying out a new product more attractive for them.
